Greetings

by @ 5:04 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

It is Sunday and the Gatekeeper is away from his post. I got the privilege of being called for Jury duty for the Federal court in Missoula, Montana. When I left the park it was cool with 4-5 inches of fresh snow on the ground with the forecast of more this week.
I am not sure how I feel about this jury duty thing…guess tomorrow will provide more insight..At any rate I am away from the place I love…..

It is cloudy and warm (45) here with no snow at all…brown and drab…

In the future I will pick a topic to talk about as well as giving park updates…perhaps if anyone is reading this I can get some return comments.

Until then take care and have a great day….

Greetings from beautiful Northwest Montana..it is a beautiful day out today..sunshine..blue skies..fresh snow on the ground…x/country skiing and snowshowing is awesome with a 1-2 foot base depending on where you go. Enjoy this wonderful place I am blessed to call home. Going to the Sun Road is open 10 miles on the west side. The webcams are back working except for Many Glacier and Goat Haunt which will be down until spring.
Seize the moment and enjoy the day!!!

Greetings

The Gatekeeper has returned and after a spurt of cold weather and now the forecast for more fresh snow…It is winter at the gate but only a few short miles south it is very brown and dry…Lots of snow in high country and water levels in the rivers seem higher than normal….Ski and snowshoe conditions in the park is very good with fair snow depth through out the park…

Splinters has returned from the trip to Seattle where the bed was delivered and setup…Grandson Ryan really liked his “Big brother bed” …but was quick to point out the step was not a ladder…We will fix that when we add the top bunk…more info and photos on the website…

Have a great day…….

Greetings once again

by @ 10:29 am. Filed under Uncategorized

Howdy from the Gatekeeper once again….fairly clear skies last night led to temperatures dropping into the teens….no new snow but good snow cover in most places…good time to breathe the fresh aire and get some good skiing or snow shoeing in and check out the snow covered peeks…..

Puppies are working on settling into their new home and parents….They are a treat to have around…and also just a bit of energy required to keep up with them…..Looks like it could be a great weight loss program for us…LOL….

Big birthday greetings to my wonderful wife…I love you….Have a great day !!!!!!

Until next time…..take care and enjoy life

Happy Monday

by @ 8:55 am. Filed under Uncategorized

Greetings once again from the Gatekeeper at Glacier National Park…The day dawned with some pink sky and temperatures in the 20’s….no new snow to speak of but a good cover on the ground. Two females of the six puppies which were dumped in the park last Monday are now happy members of the Splinters family . Check out the “meet the puppies ” link on the main page of my website…look for regular photo updates Paws and Callie and comments about them. Life as we know it has changed in a good way..

In all the spare time over the weekend(lol) a good coat of stain was added to the bed being built for Grandson Ryan…now have to wait for it to dry good and then comes the poly coat finish…..

Have a great week!!!

It is with sadness we acknowledge the results of the Super Bowl…It appeared from the very begining that the TV commintators, and referees did not want Seattle to win..and I have to admit Seattle let a lot of opportunities pass them by…something you can’t do and win the big one..The Steelers were even worst and only had a few plays to speak of …it just so happened they got points off of them…personally neither team deserved to win on Sunday…..what a big hype seemingly built around costly commercials and a terrible halftime show….some groups should maintain a low profile after the thrill has passed them by…. Thanks Seahawks for a great season….you just saved the worst game until last…. “There is always next year…”

Happy Friday

by @ 9:47 am. Filed under Uncategorized

Greetings once again from the Gatekeeper at Glacier National Park. We awoke this morning to it snowing very nicely…big flakes and really pretty…probably have 5-6 new inches of snow. Trees and bushes are all covered with the new snow. They have put us in a winter storm watch and cooler temperatures for the weekend so perhaps that will mean more new snow and continued great skiing conditions. Not that I have a lot of spare time to enjoy it.

Splinters has finished the “Boomarang Cribbage Boards” and photos are now posted on the main and project webpages of Splinterswoodworks.com. Once the seamstress that I use gets the bags created to hold them they will be ready to ship…..The bed for Grandson Ryan is nearing completion with only the finishing process left to do. The ladder which has been requested is in prototype stages…I am trying to get the best design for safety and looks….and to meet the approval of Ryan…

We here in the northwoods are pulling for the SuperBowl bound SEATTLE SEAHAWKS on Sunday…which could cause a four hour delay on working in the shop….I know it will be impossible to drag my shopmate away from the TV during that time frame…GO SEAHAWKS!!!!

Update…..We have found out that the puppies which were dumped in the park on Monday can be adopted begining today and we are heading to the valley to let two of them pick their new homes….Photos will be posted later today……..Woo Hoo…..big changes coming in the Splinters household…….
Until next time……Have a great day!
